This Japanese tool can be used for almost any job. Transplanting, weeding, cultivating; it does it all. This also makes a great sod knife with a serrated edge to help rid the working area of roots.
It took a year for my husband to try this hori hori... he loves wood in his hand. However when he tried this tool, I could not get it back. He loves this tool. He like the thinner blade that goes into the soil and the hilt for leverage. Check out the sunset "blurb" at: http://www.sunset.com/sunset/garden/package/0,20869,1675331,00.html.
Hori Hori type tools are great alternatives to using a trowel or a weeding tool.
