This is magnificent drawknife for both heavy work as well as for light, delicate cuts. The handles are angled slightly below the level of the blade to ensure proper balance. The round shanks are bent forward so that the hands "lead" the blade giving greater control and leverage. The handles are cherry with brass ferrules. Blade length is 4" and overall length is 16".
North Bay Forge History
North Bay Forge operated by Jim Wester is located on WaldronIsland in northwestern Washington. North Bay Forge tools are sold in Japan, where they are eagerly sought after by Japanese craftsmen. In fact, the attitude and care that Jim takes in the manufacture of his tools reminds me of our very best Japanese tool makers. Each North Bay Forge tool is individually hand forged from the best quality high carbon tool steel. The blade is then "cold work hardened" with hundreds of tiny hammer hits per square inch. This process relieves stress in the blade giving a more durable edge and remains visible on the surface of the finished tool. The next step is to differentially temper the blade so that the edge is hard and the backing steel is soft. Finally, each tool is subject to approximately 10 finishing steps which result in a long lasting, razor sharp edge. The quality of each tool is fully guaranteed.
