Our Bamboo Froe is designed for splitting-out the bamboo pins used to fasten together Japanese joinery. You will find it equally useful for splitting wooden pins used in all fine joinery work. The blade is a hand forged triple lamination of high-carbon "white" steel and soft low-carbon steel. The Master Blacksmith Ikeuchi individually tempers each blade to ensure a long edge life during demanding use. The blade is 1/8" thick and sharpened with a double bevel. The edge length is 6- 3/4", and the overall length is12- 3/4".
